In fact, Memphis is the cheapest place to live East of the Mississippi.
The council for community and economic research ranked the Bluff City as the fourth-lowest city in the nation in terms of the cost of living index.
The index measures regional differences in the cost of consumer goods and services like grocery bills, housing, utility, transportation and healthcare.
The other cities at the top of the cheap list?
Harlingen, Texas came in at number one. Norman, Oklahoma was number two and Pueblo, Colorado was named number three.
