Memphis Officer Injured by Fleeing Suspect

An accused car thief is on the run after he tried to run over a Memphis police officer in the Orange Mound area Friday morning.
MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - An accused car thief is on the run after he tried to run over a Memphis police officer in the Orange Mound area Friday morning.

Police were called to the 1000-block of Brower St just after 7 a.m. on Friday, June 21, on reports of a prowler at a vacant house. When they arrived, they saw a suspect sitting in a black 2013 Dodge Charger, which had been stolen a few days earlier.

As an officer approached the vehicle with his weapon drawn, ordering the suspect to get out of the car, the suspect stepped on the gas and tried to run over him. While trying to get out of the way, the officer was clipped b the front bumper and knocked down.

The suspect ran through a fence, over a row of bushes, into a curb and over a stop sign in his attempt to escape, knocking off one of the wheels. The suspect ran off before back-up officers arrived.

An ambulance was called for the injured officer, who was treated for minor injuries on the scene.
