MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A Memphis Police officer and a suspect were recovering at The MED Monday night after a violent gun battle on a busy Memphis street.

"He was deliberately on a mission to go kill somebody," said witness Oskar Recio.

Police said officers rushed to the area of Getwell Road and Barron Avenue after receiving a call concerning an armed man around 5 p.m. on Monday, July 2.

"People were screaming out here, you have an individual walking around with a sawed-off shotgun," said Recio.

Police say as they arrived on the scene, they were confronted by a 43-year-old man armed with a shotgun.

"There was police behind him, telling him to drop the gun, he continued like putting his shotgun to his head first like he was going to try and kill himself," said another witness, Hector Vazquez.

Police say officers demanded the man drop the gun, but he pointed the gun at officers and shot one time. Police returned fire and hit the suspect.

"Awful, awful. Just to hear the shooting going back and forth," said Mark Allen.

According to MPD, the officer and the suspect were transported to The Med in non-critical condition.

The suspect was later identified as 43-year-old Vincent Ingram. He has been charged with 4 cunts of Attempted First Degree Murder.

The injured officer's name has not been released.
