Memphis Vehicle Inspection Ordinance Passes First Reading

Memphis drivers may soon get a break from the inspection lines.
MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - Memphis drivers may soon get a break from the inspection lines.

The city council passed the first reading of an ordinance Tuesday that exempts everyone from emissions testing for two years. It has to pass two more readings before it's final.

The City of Memphis voted to get out of the car inspection business and turn it over to the county, but the county didn't want the job.

Governor Bill Haslam recently said that the state will not be stepping in to help.
