Methodist Olive Branch Hospital Almost Complete

Construction is almost complete. "We are about 95-98 percent done," says project manager Richard Kelley.
OLIVE BRANCH, MS (localmemphis.com) - People living in Olive Branch are just a few months away from having their own hospital. Methodist Olive Branch will open at the end of August.

Construction is almost complete. "We are about 95-98 percent done," says project manager Richard Kelley.

Most of the building and construction on Methodist Olive Branch will be finished in June. Busy workers are putting the finishing touches on tiles and installing windows.

"What's unique about these windows is they're electronically controlled so we can tint them during the hottest part of the day almost like a pair of sunglasses," Kelley tells abc24.com.

Kelley says the hospital is built with a green approach. Its heating and cooling system is done through water pipes.

"It's much more efficient than how you cool your house or a big building," he says.

The layout was decided with patients in mind. The emergency department is right near the main entrance.

"Everything is very intuitive for someone coming in to visit a patient." They've also kept safety in mind.

"This is one of the features we have, which is an infant protection system. If anybody brings a child in here that has a tag on it, it will lock the elevators down so you can't abduct a child."

The hospital has 60 beds. Workers will begin moving furniture and equipment in over the summer. The hospital starts accepting its first patients on August 26th.
