MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP, abc24.com) - Authorities say they have arrested the mayor of the West Tennessee city of Millington on bribery charges.

Shelby County District Attorney Amy Weirich said Richard Hodges was arrested Wednesday after a grand jury charged him with two counts of bribery. A news release from Weirich's office says Hodges solicited money in exchange for political favors.

The charges stem from an ongoing investigation into misconduct by public officials in Millington, located about 15 miles northeast of Memphis.

Investigators raided Millington government offices on July 27. Court documents allege Hodges gambled in City Hall and offered a transmission shop owner a Millington police badge in return for money.

A woman who answered the phone at the Millington mayor's office and declined to give her name said the city had no comment.
