According to Millington Police, officers responded to a call about an armed man near First United Methodist at 8029 Wilkinsville Road. While en route, officers received a second call that shots had been fired. Upon arrival to the scene, officers encountered a male with a rifle and possibly a handgun.

The suspect refused to drop the weapon after a verbal command from an officer. The officer then shot the man out of self defense.

The man was taken to The MED in non-critical condition.

No names are being released at this time, but Millington Police did say that they have encountered the armed suspect on other occasions and that he has a Memphis address.

The officer is on leave with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.
