Mississippi River Expected to Stay Below Flood Stage in Memphis

The Mid-South is facing some flooding, but forecasters say it's normal this time of year.
MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - The Mid-South is facing some flooding, but forecasters say it's normal this time of year.

The Mississippi River in the Memphis area stands around 33.7 feet; 34 feet is flood stage.

Right now there's minor flooding in Mud Island and in other low lying areas along the river.

Steve Barry, a spokesperson for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, says they're keeping a close eye on things.

"As far as Memphis proper goes we're probably seeing the worst of it. The river north of here is cresting and that's all the way up to Cairo, all the sites have begun to crest or will crest in the next day or so."

Forecasters say the Mississippi River will stay right below flood stage for the next 5 to 6 days.
