MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - He was just 10-years-old, but in his short life Alfreddie Gipson touched a lot of lives.
"His smile, his smile," said Angela Gipson, Alfreddie's grandma. "Going to miss that the most."
More than 200 people packed the gym at Brinkley Heights Baptist Church on Friday night for a candlelight vigil in Gipson's memory.
"You really don't know exactly what to do," said Pastor Tim Cox, who organized the vigil. "It is just a community coming together to say we love you and put their arms around this family."
"You really don't know what to do or how to do it but you want to do something," he added.
At the vigil, Gipson's mother was overcome with emotion as pictures of a beaming Alfreddie were displayed on a wall.
"My heart is full," said Shirley Warr, Gipson's grandmother.
Gipson was shot after he and his 12-year-old brother found a gun in a bedroom of their North Memphis home on Christmas Day.
Cox said Gipson was a model student and had the potential to be a leader in the community. He will be laid to rest next week.
