New Charter School Set To Open In Orange Mound

A new charter school is set to open next week in Orange Mound.
MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - A new charter school is set to open next week in Orange Mound.

Arrow Academy of Excellence is the brain child of school board member Kenneth Whalum.

“It is very exciting . I am very, very motivated to teach our scholars and meet the parents and just start a brand new school,” teacher Chanda Clark said.

Clark says she plans to encourage students to be their best at Arrow Academy of Excellence.

Students will study subjects that include English, Science, Reading, and Writing.

With 30 kids now enrolled, classes will have the benefit of a complete staff that can provide small group learning.

“Here at Arrow Academy every child will have an iPad, every child will be able to work with technology in all classes. Everything we will cover it,” executive director Annette Baldwin said.

Baldwin says the school also plans to offer after care, music, and ballet classes for kids.

Workers are still adding the finishing touches before doors open.

This school year will consist of kindergarten through first grade.

By the end of 2014, school administrators hope to expand into a full elementary school

“We think it will help a lot in that were looking at the triple bottom line as our little niche in the world where we will teach our children about entrepreneurship, how to respect the earth, how to benefit the neighborhood, do something with the foot print of the school that's for the community , not for us,” Baldwin said.

Arrow Academy of Excellence charter school is still enrolling students.
