BOLIVAR COUNTY, MS (abc24.com) - We're getting our first look at the man charged in a deadly hit and run in Mississippi. Rodney Shelton Fulgham was in Bolivar County court Tuesday morning. He's charged with running over his girlfriend Shelby Harmon in mid-October.
Harmon died 10 days ago. Her story has gone viral online, with more than 26,000 people demanding her killer's arrest. Harmon's family has used her murder to raise awareness and fight domestic violence.
Fulgham is charged with felony vehicular homicide. He walked shackled into court in Cleveland, Mississippi.
Investigators waited a few days to charge Fulgham as they investigated Harmon's death. They say she was struck by Fulgham's vehicle as she walked alongside a highway.
Her body was thrown into oncoming traffic and hit several more times.
Fulgham remained silent on his way into the courthouse, but Harmon's mother talked. She's determined to get justice for her daughter.
"I know the trial is going to be long and tedious," Angela Harmon tells abc24.com. "It might last weeks or months or years, but we're prepared for that and ultimately that he is put behind bars and not eligible for parole."
Fulgham will remain in jail until he is indicted. He was not eligible for bond because he was also charged with felony burglary in another case. The homicide charge will be presented to the grand jury next spring.
