WEST MEMPHIS, AR (abc24.com) - No charges have been filed against the woman who drove into a West Memphis funeral home last week.
The accident killed 3-year-old Isabella Rushing and injured three of her relatives.
“At this time it's very early in the investigation still so we have got a ways to go,” said West Memphis Police Captain Ken Mitchell.
Mitchell says it's unclear whether or not Shannon Morgan, who crashed into the Roller Citizens Funeral Home, will face any charges.
“We're compiling all the facts and once we do, we'll send them to our prosecuting attorney and he'll decide whether or not any criminal activity was involved,” Mitchell said.
The victims were leaving a visitation for a great-grandmother when police say Morgan had a seizure, blacked out behind the wheel and drove into the funeral home. Police are still waiting for toxicology report.
"It's really scary that it happened, just to think you're standing right outside a funeral home at a visitation and here comes a truck and bam just hits someone like that, that's scary," said witness Jessica Houston.
Two of the adult victims are doing ok. One was discharged from The MED, the other is in fair condition. A five-year-old girl was injured in the crash, but the family is not allowing the hospital to say how she is doing. Isabella Rushing, the youngest victim, died a short time after the accident.
“It was completely tragic. You have a family that has come in town grieving the loss of one family member, now they've lost a second family member and a child at that,” Mitchell said.
Mitchell did not say how soon the investigation would be completed. Funeral arrangements for Isabella Rushing have not been set.
