Officer Threatened with Own Baton during Traffic Stop

MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A routine traffic stop ended in gunfire after the driver was shot while attacking a Memphis Police officer with one of their own batons.

The incident occurred on Friday, February 17, 2012 around 9:30pm in the area of Geurnsey and Treadwell near Treadwell Elementary & Treadwell High School. Officers were approaching a vehicle pulled over during a traffic stop when the driver started fighting with one of the cops and grabbed his baton in the struggle. As the suspect attempted to attack the officer, the other officer shot the suspect in the arm.

The suspect and both officers were taken to the hospital with non-critical injuries.

The officer who shot the suspect has been relieved of duty with pay pending the outcome of the investigation. Charges against the driver are still pending. So far no names have been released.

too bad his back ups did not beat the suspect where he had to go to to the med, and come out with a JOHN GASTON TUBAN, or in a bodybag

well, unless we hear any evidence to the contrary, it sounds like this suspect got what he or she deserved!
