MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - Pay attention to those speed limit signs when driving through Olive Branch.
The city has lowered the limits in some areas. Areas where there is construction going on or areas where children live and play.
Expect to see most residential areas, like neighborhoods, with a lower speed limit.
For example, a street with a speed limit of 35 is lowered to 30. On strets where it was 25, it has been lowered to 20.
Police said so many drivers push the limit. If the sign says 35, some will go 45.
Police said they just want to keep everybody safe, especially children.
"When you're driving you're not really looking at the speed limit and the way cars are designed, before you know it, you're going 5 miles over and you get pulled over and I just don't think that's fair," Olive Branch resident Lisa Clayton said.
"I'm guilty of doing that myself so I think in residential areas where kids are around, it's for the kids sake," Amy Rogers of Olive Branch said.
In a few areas the speed limit didn't get any lower. Instead, officials put in speed bumps where residents wanted them.
As for the lower limits in construction areas. Highway 305 between highway 78 and Goodman Road is the main area affected.
The speed limit in that area has been reduced from 35 to 25. Just until construction is completed.
