Open Carry Gun Law Ordinance Passed For DeSoto County

Mississippi's "open carry" gun law was a major topic of discussion at today's Desoto County board of supervisors meeting.
MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - Mississippi's "open carry" gun law was a major topic of discussion at today's Desoto County board of supervisors meeting.

The board adopted an ordinance not allowing guns inside the courthouse, justice court, administration building, and other county buildings.

The law, itself, is still confusing for many, even for some board members.

Basically, the law says that any citizen can carry a gun, without a permit, as long as it's visible. Even if its in your hand.

Sheriff Bill Rascoe says the main concern for police is under the new law officers don't have the right to question you about the gun your carrying.

That is why today the board adopted a new policy. No guns will be allowed inside Desoto County government buildings and signs will be posted.
