MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - An overall 11 cases of possible fraud were found by an audit on Melrose High School, including 185 pieces of school equipment unaccounted for, a wrestling team that never existed, and a librarian pocketing money.

It's the talk of Orange Mound; causing outrage among some fans of Melrose High School.

Tyrone Baugh said, "I mean, you're supposed to be a mentor and you're supposed to be teaching kids to be better. I mean, we're always saying he's selling dope, he's robbing and stealing, but look at the examples we've got!"

"It's just unprofessional like and despicable," said one graduate of Melrose High School, who declined to give his name.

According to the audit, Principal Leviticus Pointer allowed staff to misuse the school's money. Librarian Jonathan Phipps was paid $4,744 to coach a nonexistent wrestling team, a twist that has Baugh shaking their heads in disappointment.

"How's you paying for a wrestling team when you ain't even got a wresting team?!"

"It's sad to see someone - and he actually graduated from Melrose, I believe - steal money from the school. Everybody's struggling these days so it's pretty hard to swallow," said alumnae Rhonda Kuykendoll.

Pipps was also Melrose's acting Athletic Director. Part of his job was to run concession stands at athletic events, which he failed for several months to turn in receipts.

$18,300 dollars in taxes were also unpaid on the items that were sold. For the Orange Mound community, it's a hard hitting blow.

"I hate to say it but they need to be locked up," said Orange Mound resident Kevin Dortch.

Baugh agrees. "Everybody in Orange Mound loves Melrose. Everybody in South Memphis loves Melrose. Everybody in North Memphis loves Melrose. Melrose, we still number one! Lock that coach up!"
