MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Former University of Memphis Tiger and NBA All-Star Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway now has a gym to train young and aspiring athletes.

Methodist University Hospital has turned the gym at its Midtown hospital into Penny's Fast Break Court.

Kevin Spiegel, CEO of Methodist Hospital, said, "Hardaway has been mentoring and training kids since he retired from the NBA four years ago. He did that training despite not having a gym to use regularly."

"I'm just glad to have a home," Penny said, adding he's thankful for the schools that allowed him to use their gyms, but he's happy they're no longer "getting kicked out by volleyball, baseball or football."

Gary Shorb, CEO of Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, said when he heard Penny needed a gym his first reaction was, "How can I help, what can we do, how can we make it happen? ... We had this vacant facility and decided almost immediately to turn it to something he could use."
