Plans Unveiled for New Look of Chisca Hotel

It's an eyesore now, but the historic Hotel Chicsa is going to be the beauty of the block once it's renovated.
MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - It's an eyesore now, but the historic Hotel Chicsa is going to be the beauty of the block once it's renovated.

Architects presented renovation plans to the Design Review Board Wednesday evening.

The new Chisca will have more than 160 market-rate apartments. There are also plans for a large plaza area with a reflecting pool and a roof deck.

"It is going to look great," said Paul Morris with the Downtown Memphis Commission. "The Chisca used to look great 100 years ago when it was built, and it will look great again… The main thing, it will be populated instead of vacant."

Morris says renovations are set to start in a few weeks. It could take up to 18 months to complete.
