MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com)-An off-duty Memphis police officer’s personal vehicle was broken into while eating at Sekisui Pacific Rim on Poplar Avenue Friday night.
The suspects got away with several personal items including the officer's uniform, badge and gun belt.
"The victim came in crying. Everyone wanted to know what's going on. So we went outside we saw that his truck window was all broken and then we found out that his guns, police belts, and police radio was all stolen and then she tried to stop the guys and then they tried to run her over," said Jennifer Bui who is an employee of Sekisui Pacific Rim.
According to the police report, an off-duty officer and a woman were robbed Friday night after eating at SPR in East Memphis. When the couple walked outside, they discovered their Chevrolet Avalanche had been broken into. The woman spotted one of the suspects putting stolen items into his car.
The woman yelled at the suspects, then tried to get their tag number and that’s when both suspects drove off, almost running her over.
"We came out. We consoled them. We talked to them about one of our employees girlfriend got their wheelchair stolen out of her car parking right there. So it's not like the first time any of these cars have been broken into here," said Bui.
The couple was parked on the side of the building.
"At night this is all dark so you can’t really catch anything," said Bui.
As of now, nothing but shattered glass is left on the parking spot. The suspects got away with stolen MPD equipment that includes a gun belt, MPD uniform, badge, handgun, handcuffs, and an MPD radio.
"Makes me feel scared to park my own car here. I always park here where that camera is so I can see it while in inside," said Bui.
