A pretrial hearing is set for today in Panola County for the accused Mississippi highway killer.
MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - A pretrial hearing is set for today in Panola County for the accused Mississippi highway killer.

James Willie faces the death penalty.

“You're innocent until proven guilty. Sometimes you’re guilty until proven innocent,” Willie said after an appearance in court in 2012.

He is accused of killing two people and raping a third.

Willie faces the death penalty for the murder of 74-year old Thomas Schlender from Nebraska.

Schlender was shot and killed last may while driving down interstate 55 in Panola County.

Just days after Schlender's murder, Lori Anne Carswell, a Tunica casino worker was shot and killed.

Tunica county sheriff investigators matched a gun Willie is accused of firing during a sexual assault to the murder weapon.

The assault and murders will be tried separately.
