"If we go and buy trucks now, they'll be antiquated in 5 years." Why bother eating? You'll just be hungry again in 3 hours! Why bother buying new shoes? You'll just need new ones in a year! Why bother buying a new car? You'll just need a new one in 5 years! These are the same types of arguments and all are nonsense. Yes, most things in this world have a lifespan. That doesn't absolve one from the responsibility of maintaining equipment! That doesn't absolve the city from the responsibility of depreciating equipment and replacing it at appropriate intervals! What a bunch of horse manure (which is recyclable, by the way). DO YOUR JOB. It's why you get paid by the taxpayers.
