Ready To Fly? New Airline in Mid-South Skies

Ready to get away? A week after Southwest Airlines said it was coming to town, another air service is launching in the Mid-South.
MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Ready to get away? A week after Southwest Airlines said it was coming to town, another air service is launching in the Mid-South.

Southern Airways Express plans to fly from airports in Memphis and Olive Branch, with service to New Orleans, Gulf Shores, Destin, and Panama City by the end of the month.

Tickets will go on sale in a few days.

"I can get you door to door, from your house in Memphis to your hotel on the beach in 2.5 to 3 hours," said Southern Airways Chairman and CEO Stan Little.

Little says the airline will start with 3 planes. Each plane has leather seats, and will come with a pre-loaded iPad with 10 movies and shows.

"We are competing with people who would otherwise be in their automobile," said Little. "What we are is a way for people to say I get two more days of vacation because I can fly out early in the morning, and have that entire afternoon on the beach."

Little says the airline plans to put together sports packages this season, with flights to the University of Tennessee and Arkansas football games.
