Republic Services employees and members of Teamsters Local 984 ratified a new collective bargaining agreement with the company on Sunday and are expected to return to work on Monday morning.

The new five year contract will provide a pay raise for employees. The contract will also allow them to exit the struggling Central States Pension Fund in favor of the same 401(k) retirement plan used by Republic’s management.

Under the new agreement, Republic Services will immediately contribute vested lump sums into the 401(k) on behalf of Memphis employees.

Republic Services provides approximately 200,000 Memphis, Shelby County and Northern Mississippi residences and more than 10,000 commercial and industrial customers with either waste or recycling pickup services.
