Residents Displaced By Early Morning High-Rise Fire

Memphis firefighters were called to the scene of a two-alarm fire at the Linden Towers in the Medical District early Thursday morning.
MEMPHIS, TN-The Memphis Fire Department responded to the scene of a two-alarm fire at the Linden Towers at 1056 Linden Ave. just after 7:00 a.m Thursday morning.

Firefighters say when they arrived on the scene, they could see smoke coming from the high-rise apartment building. Fire officials say approximately 101 emergency response personnel responded to the call. The fire was under control within about half an hour. Around 30 residents were evacuated. A 69-year-old male and a 51-year-old female were taken to the hospital in non-critical condition for smoke inhalation.

Fire investigators determined that the building did not have a sprinkler system. The cause of the fire was from food left unattended on the stove in the kitchen area of one of the apartments.
