MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - After years of decline there is visible progress is taking place at the Raleigh Springs Mall.

The last standing portion of the old JC Penney store was finally demolished and is being removed.

The city of Memphis wants to use resources like a police station, walking trails, and a library to attract private investors to the property.

Raleigh residents are hopeful that development starts on the property soon.

"All of our commerce and business decided that they wanted to move somewhere else. We're still here. We still need a place to go shopping. We have to go somewhere else now because we don't have many stores left here," Sonny Almond of the Raleigh Community Council said.

While mall management wouldn't go on camera, yhey did tell Local 24 news they are currently looking for new mall tenants and have space available to lease.

They also expect to make a big announcement concerning the mall sometime next week.
