Richland Elementary Principal Receives National Honor

Honorees will be recognized in Washington, D.C during National Principals Month in October.
MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - Sharon McNary, principal of Richland Elementary School, has been inducted into the 2013 Class of National Distinguished Principals by the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP).

McNary is among 61 elementary and middle school principals that will be honored in Washington, D.C. by the NAESP October 24 – 25. This annual awards ceremony will honor principals for their demonstrations of exceptional leadership, gains in student achievement and fostering an environment of educational excellence.

he National Distinguished Principals program was established in 1984 to recognize elementary and middle level principals who make superior contributions to their schools and communities. Each year, public and private school principals from across the country, as well as overseas, are nominated by peers and selected by special committees.

“I am humbled and honored to be recognized as a National Distinguished Principal for the state of Tennessee,” McNary said. “I believe that I earned this award because of the extreme effort that every faculty, staff member, and parent puts forth to make our school the best school it can be for our students. No one person can do this job and do it well.”

Principal McNary has served as an educator in the Memphis community for the past 30 years and as an assistant principal and principal of Richland Elementary for the past 15 years.

“I am truly blessed to be at such a wonderful school where everyone works together for our students and school,” she said. “I don’t feel that I do anything more than what every other principal does. I do this job because I love it, and I love the students, faculty, staff, and parents.”

In addition to her time at Richland, McNary has also worked as a teacher at Avon Lenox School and Kingsbury High School.
