Road Crews Continue To Treat Mid-South Roads

MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Road crews were preparing late Tuesday for another sleepless night, as they continue to treat icy roads and highways.

"Try and be safe tonight if I can," said Ottis Scullark, as he prepared his City of Memphis salt truck before heading out.

"Check the tires, and make sure your lights are working," he added.

Crew have been working around the clock, first treating roads with a brine solution, then switching to a salt and sand mixture as conditions deteriorated.

"It isn't as bad as people say it is, but it is a little bit scary," said Emily Hendrix, as she pumped gas.

"Actually the ground was slicker then the concrete. Little difficult there," said Carl Price. "It doesn't make any sense this kind of cold night."

After the westbound lanes of I-40 turned into a parking lot on Monday night, traffic was light on Tuesday night, allowing crews to continue treating it.

"It is lovely, it is fun," said Jay Howard, as he headed out to treat more Memphis roads.
