Rumors Swirl on Whether Hollins Will Coach Grizzlies Next Year

His contract is up at the end of June, and now the team's management has given Memphis Grizzlies head coach Lionel Hollins permission to speak to other teams.
MEMPHIS, TN ( - Big coaching questions are looming for the Grizzlies. Will Lionel Hollins be the Grizzlies head coach next year?

His contract is up at the end of June. Management has given Hollins permission to speak to other teams, and the rumors are swirling.

"It was the best season for the Grizzlies yet. Why would we mess up something that ain't broke?" asks Larry Crawford.

"I think everyone is freaking out cause we've been doing so well with him," says Melanie Radic. "What's going to happen when he's gone?"

Grizzlies fans are wondering if the Hollins era is over. "I'm thinking that Hollins is leaving," says Nate Illsey. "Obviously I would like Coach Hollins to stay. It's not looking like he is."

Illsey and others are reacting to news of Hollins being given permission to talk with other teams. He questions why management would do that if they wanted to keep him.

"Go on and cut the check. It's not that complicated. I'm not impressed with the new ownership. I'm impressed with what Coach Hollins did," Illsey says.

"The Rudy Gay trade was kinda scary. Now this is just way out of left field. Left field to get rid of Lionel Hollins," says Crawford.

Fans say Hollins led the team to new levels.

"He's brought us mighty long ways," says Clete Bridges.

"He is in a building process," says Graylon Brown. "You don't want anybody to stop that."

Hollins posted a message to fans on Facebook Monday saying he wants to stay in Memphis. He wrote, "I hope things will work out."

So far, the Grizzlies' front office is staying quiet while fans watch, wait and wonder.

"That's the game," Illsey says. "It's all about money. There's no loyalty, especially in sports. People will tell you anything."
