Denying charter schools is better for children. They do not offer anything the the public school system does not. They drain money from the school system (that is already suffering) to pay the administrators and owners of the private companies that operate the charter schools. The 2013-14 SCS budget has $65 million for charter schools, and they claim to have a $30 million shortfall. Charter schools are going to drive the public school system out of operation and a handful of people will profit from it.

It is time to consider what is best for the children, and not what is best for the city. In reality, it is best for the city if we put the needs of the children first. The children are the future! I have watched on the news while families wait for days in line, in the rain and cold, to get into the few charter schools that are available in Memphis and it is heartbraking. These parents just want to see that their children get a good education, and there are no other options available to them. We have given the city long enough to provide quality education for Memphis children and they have failed. It is the right thing to allow the new Charter Schools in the city of Memphis.
