MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - An overnight fire at an apartment building in north Memphis left dozens of people homeless.

It happened around 1 a.m. on Thursday, June 28 at South Manor Apartments on the 700-block of Decatur Street.

Neighbors say the fire started on the second floor and spread quickly to other apartments.

One woman says she heard a loud "boom" from the apartment above her; that's when her son noticed the flames.

"Everybody ran across the street, thank God we got good neighbors like I said," said apartment resident Charlotte Green.

The Red Cross is helping nine displaced families. The fire department is still investigating the cause of the fire.

No injuries were reported.
