Shelby County Offices Evacuated for Gas Leak

More than 200 Shelby County government employees were evacuated from their east Memphis offices after construction crews ruptured a gas line Tuesday afternoon.
MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - More than 200 Shelby County government employees were evacuated from their east Memphis offices after construction crews ruptured a gas line Tuesday afternoon.

According to a government spokesperson, workers building a new road on the property off Mullins Station Road accidentally hit the natural gas line. The evacuation affected dispatchers for the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, and 911 calls were briefly rerouted to the Arlington substation as MLGW crews worked to repair the leak.

The gas leak was contained just after 3 p.m. There were no injuries reported.
