Shelby County Voters Report Minor Issues on Election Day

Long lines, voting machines not working, and people going to wrong polling locations were just a few of the problems popping up on Election Day in Shelby County. That said, compared to the August primary, election officials say this time everything is running much more smoothly.
MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Long lines, voting machines not working, and people going to wrong polling locations were just a few of the problems popping up on Election Day in Shelby County.

That said, compared to the August primary, election officials say this time everything is running much more smoothly.

All day, workers were on the phone fielding calls from polling locations.

While there were no mass problems, issues did pop up. Most had to do with redistricting; people either didn't go to the right location to vote or say they were never notified by the Shelby County Election Commission their precincts had changed.

Another problem, people being told they were not allowed to vote because they were listed as "inactive" in the poll books, when it fact they were eligible.

There's a long list of outside agencies monitoring to make sure there were no major problems; the FBI and Justice Department, the State of Tennessee, the NAACP, the Shelby County Democratic Party, and the City of Memphis, just to name a few.
