Sheriff's Department Offering New Drug Collection Bin In Arlington

Keeping old and unused medications out of kids' hands and off the streets is the goal of a new drug collection bin in Arlington.
MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - Keeping old and unused medications out of kids' hands and off the streets is the goal of a new drug collection bin in Arlington.

The sheriff's office teamed up with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation to install the bin.

Simply take any of your old medications, prescription or over the counter, and drop them in the container.

It's open to everyone, and it is anonymous.

“We have a lot of abuse as it relates to medications and this is one way they can get those items out of the house without having to create a problem for young kids or elderly who may be taking those medications and not have a true understanding of what they're taking as well, “ Reginald Hubbard with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said.

The bin is under 24 hour surveillance.

There are 44 permanent collection bins in Tennessee. This is the first one in Shelby County.

It's located just inside the doors at the Shelby County Sheriff's Fffice substation on Memphis-Arlington Road.
