Slain Officer's Daughters Coping with their Mother's Death

MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - The daughters of fallen Memphis police officer Martoiya Lang describe her as the greatest mom ever. Officer Lang was shot and killed last month while serving a drug warrant.

"She was more than an officer," said 14-year-old Taylour Lang, the oldest of Martoiya Lang's four daughters. "She was a caring and loving person."

13-year-old Dariyn Lang, the second oldest, said of her mother, "When she met you she's like, 'I love you, how you doing?" She made sure everybody felt loved and cared about."

"She went to work everyday, she provided for her kids and took care of family no matter what," Taylour added.

The sisters say not only do they have to be there for each other, they also have to be there for their 12-year-old sister, Naia Lang.

Memphis police officer Martoiya Lang was shot and killed December 14 after she and members of MPD's Organized Crime Unit served a search warrant at a home on Mendenhall Cove.

When their mom died, the girls made a pact that they would get through it together.

For Naia, the loss of her mom has, at times, been too much to bear.

"My mom was my best friend," she said. "my days they feel longer… I feel sad a lot and depressed."

All three girls say the feeling of sadness briefly disappears when they think about how the city of Memphis responded after their mom was killed in the line of duty.

"More people loved her than I thought they did."

"I feel loved and cared about... Wow, this many people care about us and our Mom."

"I wish my Mom was here to see how much see was appreciated and how much she impacted other people."

To her girls, Officer Martoiya Lang was perfect - a super mom and a hero.

The girls are living with their dad, Darius Lang, who is in a bitter custody fight with Martoiya's mother. The girls admit things haven't been perfect but they say they love their dad and they're glad he's stepping up to take care of them.
