SOUTHAVEN, MS (abc24.com) - The Southaven Board of Aldermen continue to investigate Mayor Greg Davis and his spending, meeting late into the night Monday.

The Board faces a Friday deadline to review a new batch of receipts and invoices Mayor Davis submitted to the Mississippi State Auditor, as the auditor continues to investigate more than $170,000 in questionable spending.

Mayor Davis was not at Monday's meeting. He has maintained he's done nothing wrong.

In the end, the Board reconvened in open session, and passed a motion to continue investigating.

"Well, it is shocking, and upsetting and I don't know, you just kind of hold your breath to see what we see next," said Frankie Lashlee.

Last Tuesday, the Board met for hours behind closed doors reviewing receipts, and Monday night's meeting lasted more than 2 hours.

Residents wonder what all this exposure could mean for the city.

"I think sometimes it lends towards the bad reputation of Mississippi and the negative connotation of the people of the state," said Toni House.

"I would have thought he might resign but it looks like he Is going to hang in there and enjoy the controversy. It does keep things interesting," Lashlee said.

Let's face it, the Board of Alderman are going to keep their "investigation" going as long as they can. If they admit that Greg Davis mis-spent city funds, then they will have to take the blame. According to the Mayor, the Board approved ALL of his spending. And what happened to the State's investigation? We have heard nothing from that. This will not end until re-election and then Greg Davis will be in the unemployment line!
