Special Education Teacher's Boyfriend Charged With Killing her

New information tonight on the death of a Memphis special needs teacher.
MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - New information tonight on the death of a Memphis special needs teacher.

Bronsha Lewis' ex-boyfriend has been charged with killing her.

Carl Smith is charged with first degree murder in the death of Bronsha Lewis.

Police were called to the University Cabana apartment complex on Friday morning.

The apartments are located on Oakmont Place in North Memphis.

When they arrived they found 30-year-old Bronsha Lewis' body.

Police say she was beaten to death.

Investigators learned her car was also stolen and issued an alert. Smith was found with the car in West Memphis and taken into custody.

According to a police affidavit, he confessed to killing Lewis.

Lewis was a special needs teacher for Shelby County schools. She was a special education assistant at Brewster Elementary. She also worked as a site assistant at Idlewild Elementary.

Last night friends and family held a candlelight vigil to remember her.
