FAYETTE COUNTY, TN (abc24.com) - A routine traffic stop in Fayette County ended with a cocaine bust and four people behind bars.
It happened March 26 on I-40 East when a Tennessee State Trooper stopped a car for speeding.
The trooper said the two men in the car, 21-year-old Benjamin Ponce de Leon and 32-year-old Alberto Yebra, were acting suspicious, so he had his K-9 partner search the car for drugs.
The dog helped them find eight kilos of cocaine hidden in a rear panel, and then two more kilos hidden in the dashboard. That's more than 20 pounds of cocaine, worth up to $350,000.
The West Tennessee Drug Task Force later stopped another car of acquaintances of the men. The man and woman inside that car, 26-year-old Victor Zertuche and 26-year-old Claudia Santos, were also arrested on drug charges.
