Suspect Arrested in Aaron Vasquez Murder

A suspect has been arrested for the murder of 19-year-old Aaron Vasquez, who was stabbed to death early Saturday morning.
MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A suspect has been arrested for the murder of 19-year-old Aaron Vasquez, who was stabbed to death early Saturday morning.

Vasquez, who worked at El Toro Loco Mexican Restaurant, was attacked while he was taking out the trash in the alley behind the restaurant. He was robbed of his keys, wallet and phone, and his vehicle was stolen as well.

Surveillance of a possible suspect was released to the public, and one person fitting the description was detained Wednesday night but later released. Earlier that same morning, employees found Vasquez's vehicle had been returned to the restaurant's parking lot.

Around 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 29, police detained a suspect on Kirby Terrace Drive after a brief foot chase. The suspect resisted arrest, assaulting one officer. The suspect was transported by ambulance for injuries incurred during the arrest.

So far, the suspect's identity has not been released.

Vasquez's family, who were planning to attend vigil at Aaron's high school, St. Benedict at Auburndale in Cordova, were notified of the arrest a short time later.
