Suspect Charged With First Degree Murder In MPD Officer Shooting

On Friday, December 14, 2012, at approximately 7:58 a.m., members of the Memphis Police Department’s Organized Crime Unit were serving a drug related search warrant at 1062 Mendenhall Cove.

Upon the initial entry into the residence, two officers were struck by gunfire. Officers then returned fire striking the 21 year old suspect, Treveno Campbell. He was transported to the Regional Medical Center where he remains in critical condition. 

26 year old Willie Braddock was also located in a bedroom inside the residence. During the search, several plastic bags of marijuana were located in the room with Braddock. He was taken into custody and charged with Possession of Controlled Substance with the intent to sell for marijuana. Willie Braddock has multiple prior drug charges. He is being held on a $40,000 bond and is set to be in court on Monday, December 17th, 2012.

Officer William Vrooman, 32, was transported to the The MED in critical condition but has since been released from the hospital. 32 year old Officer Martoiya Lang was transported to the The MED in critical condition but was later pronounced deceased.

Treveno Campbell was charged with First Degree Murder and Attempted First Degree Murder. This is an ongoing investigation and additional charges on Campbell are pending.

Don't worry Haven, he knows what he/she/it is saying so "it" (appropriate given that "it" obviously has NO regard for the slain officer) is a purified IDIOT smh....

@Lebowski - once again, your armchair law degree is getting ahead of your mouth. I will state it again - spend 20 seconds (in your case, 2 hours may be required) researching 1st degree murder. It is NOT just premeditated acts.

Re: 1st Degree vs. 2nd Degree Murder -- didn't the shooter have a choice to NOT shoot? He chose to shoot, thus 1st Degree.

Aggravated murder against a Police Officer is 1st degree murder. What does it matter to you if it's 1st degree or 2nd degree? This punk thug killed an officer in the line of duty! Maybe you could spend 20 seconds researching before making foolish comments.
