MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A Memphis man is behind bars for attacking another man with a rusty axe.

The incident happened at a convenience store parking lot on April 19. According to the police affidavit, the victim had just walked out of the store when he heard someone call him a name. When he turned to look, 53-year-old Theodore Leach was coming towards him with an axe in his hands.

Leach swung the axe several times, striking the victim in the arm. As the victim tried to run away, Leach chased him yelling, "I'm going to kill you," the document states. He ran away when a friend of the victim intervened.

Theodore Leach was arrested April 24 and charged with Attempted Second Degree Murder. He is being held at the Shelby County Jail on $200,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 16.
