Suspect Charged for E. Memphis Carjacking, Burglaries

Police have arrested a suspect in at least east Memphis two car burglaries, and believe he is responsible for several more.
MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Police have arrested a suspect in at least east Memphis two car burglaries, and believe he is responsible for several more.

Investigators had been working rash of car burglaries in a neighborhood near Quince and Kirby, where nine vehicles have been burglarized. On March 7, one victim saw a man get into his vehicle, where his spare key, a custom pool stick and money had been stolen the day before. As the suspect started to drive away in the car, the victim ran out and jumped in the passenger seat to try and stop him. A fight ensued, and the suspect jumped out of the car and ran away.

The suspect was identified by the victim as 24-year-old Jason Brown, and officers found the custom pool stick and several other items reported stolen during a search of his apartment. Upon questioning, Brown admitted to police he had broken into one other vehicle.

Jason Brown was arrested and charged with Burglary of a Motor Vehicle and Attempted Carjacking. Investigators suspect Brown is tied to other burglaries, and state additional charges could follow. He is currently being held at the Shelby County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
