MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A suspect has been charged for the murder of a woman at a downtown Memphis high rise in August.

On August 14, police found 46-year-old Connie Cox in the stairwell on the 19th floor of the Renaissance Apartments at 99 N. Main. An ambulance was called and the victim was pronounced dead on the scene.

Investigators say a witness received a phone call from 42-year-old Scott Porter the next day, stating an injured woman had been in his apartment and wouldn't leave. The witness also told officers it looked like Porter had tried to clean up blood from his apartment.

Police obtained a search warrant and found several bloody items in his apartment. Porter was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder, he is scheduled to appear in court November 20.
