Suspect Charged in Midtown Carjacking, Downtown Crash

Memphis police have arrested the suspect accused of carjacking a man outside a midtown music store, and then crashing the stolen car outside the Peabody Hotel.
MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - Memphis police have arrested the suspect accused of carjacking a man outside a midtown music store, and then crashing the stolen car outside the Peabody Hotel.

The carjacking occurred around 12:40 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, outside Martin Music on Poplar Ave near N Belvedere Blvd. The victim was getting out of his Dodge Durango when a suspect walked up, implied he was armed, and demanded his vehicle. The victim threw his keys on the ground and the suspect drove off in the car headed westbound on Poplar.

Police spotted the vehicle in the area of Union Ave and Pauline St in the Medical District and tried to pull the suspect over. The suspect kept going, and wrecked the vehicle at Union and 3rd St.

The suspect, 20-year-old Quinton Ford, ran from the crashed vehicle, but was later arrested and charged with Carjacking, Evading Arrest and Reckless Driving. Ford was booked at the Shelby County Jail on a $75,000 bond.
