MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Treveno Campbell made his first court appearance Thursday for the murder of Memphis police officer Martoiya Lang.

He is also facing an attempted murder charge for shooting Officer William Vrooman.

Campbell was shot several times during a firefight with police as they were serving a search warrant on December 14. He was treated at The MED but has since recovered.

His lawyer, William Massey, is investigating what happened that day and is telling Campbell to get ready for a lengthy legal battle.

"This is going to be a long, tough hard fight," he said. "This isn't going to be over quickly and so he needs to buckle in and get ready. Get ready mentally, get ready emotionally for a long fight."

Willie Braddock was also in the house when Officer Lang was killed. He is charged with marijuana possession.

Both Braddock and Campbell will be in court for preliminary hearings on January 31st.
