MARSHALL COUNTY, MS (abc24.com) - He's been on the run for nearly six months and still no sign of the man suspected of breaking into more than a dozen Mississippi churches.

Marshall County Sheriff's deputies have been hunting Jerome Totten since April. He's caused cops problems, escaping arrest twice and almost hitting a deputy in the process.

They haven't forgotten. Deputies are biding their time, still searching and strategizing. Totten has also been added to the U.S. Marshal's fugitive list.

"It's obvious he's going to run. He doesn't want to be taken into custody," says Major Kelly McMillen, who speaks from experience. "We've made several attempts make contact with Jerome."

Totten is a suspect in multiple burglaries throughout northern Mississippi, including "church burglaries also some home burglaries." McMillen says he's been missing long enough.

The sheriff's department is offering a reward for help tracking down Totten, how much it is will depend on the tip.

The department thinks Totten is getting help to stay hidden so long. McMillen says they'll get him soon, and have learned a lesson from previous tries.

"We'd approach it differently if we got the location on him, with multiple people."

Deputies say he should be approached with caution. He's a known drug addict and they're not sure of his state of mind. If you know anything, call the Marshall County Sheriff's Department at (662) 252-1311.
