MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A home in east Memphis was surrounded by MPD's TACT Unit Friday after gunfire led to a standoff situation that started late Thursday night.

Police were called to the 6600-block of Corsica Dr around 11:20 p.m. on Thursday, April 26, for an armed person in the home that was reportedly intoxicated.

Once officers arrived and were inside the home, the suspect fired a weapon from upstairs. Officers did not return fire, and evacuated everyone else safely. The suspect refused to leave.

The area surrounding the home was evacuated and traffic shut down as TACT officers made the scene. Residents were allowed to leave their homes, but a wide perimeter kept media and incoming traffic a good distance away. Police say they were in contact with the suspect, who remained barricaded in the home until late Friday morning.

Investigators say there is no history of calls to police from the home.
