MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has released the name of the off-duty Memphis police officer involved in the fatal shooting of an alleged teen robbery suspect Monday night.

The TBI was requested to investigate the shooting death of 15-year-old Justin Thompson. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on Monday, September 24 near Wooddale Ave and Jenkins St in the Parkway Village area. Thompson was transported to The MED where he was pronounced dead. Authorities did state the shooting was related to an attempted robbery.

On the scene of the shooting was MPD Officer Terrance Shaw, 28, who was off-duty at the time. Shaw has since been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.

Once the TBI completes its investigation into the events surrounding Thompson's death and Shaw's involvement, the case will be turned over to the District Attorney's office for review.

Wharton said at a Tuesday news conference that acts of police misconduct erode public trust and will not be tolerated. He said he is bringing in an outside consultant with a law enforcement background to work alongside MPD Director Toney Armstrong to help conduct a review of procedures involving officer accountability, recruitment and hiring practices, education and training, and the effectiveness of the department's internal affairs arm.

rhank god this officer was black... otherwise we would have the " justice for travon " crew here. you know it really does not matter the age of the thug involved - a 12 year old these days will kill you just as easy as anyone else. thugs are thugs regardless of age and the fewer we have around the better. good work officer, hurry back to work and get some more
