What is it about having to obey the law am I not understanding here? This is a crime. They have the video footage showing who the criminals were and what they were doing and nothing was done?

This police report supports the findings of the Rotary Club that stated MAS workers had ties to dog fighting. The indictments of the most recent "three" prove the allegations of cruelty at MAS made by animal advocates. The MAS security camera videos prove there is inhumane treatment of the animals housed at MAS. Hopefully the Mayor was horrified enough by the undercover investigation findings that he will take prompt action in the future regarding allegations made against MAS. The animals that suffered "horrifying cruelty" for years because the Mayor, Hooks and Hall ignored the problems at MAS and labeled those who took a stand as "rabble rousers" and "kooks". Shame on them for letting their egos stand in the way of cleaning up MAS.

Thank you, Jeni and ABC24 news, for your relentless pursuit of uncovering still another layer of corruption and the accompamnying animal abuse at MAS. Again we see at MAS a culture deeply entrenched in abuse and illegal activity and largely acting with impunity. Jeni, your continued reportage on this cruelty and criminality will hopefully compel the caring people of Memphis to flood the city government with e-mails, phone calls, letters, and face-to-face contacts demanding the good riddance of these many bad actors up and down the chain of command at MAS. Many of those (Hooks, Hall,Herenton, the rank-and-file) entrusted with the safe-keeping and care of these unfortunate animals have time and again broken that trust of safe-keeping and care of these defenseless aniamls. Let it not go unsaid that indeed there are a few good employees and volunteers who have had to work in a corrosive and dispiriting atmosphere to render compassionate care to these voiceless ones. Mayor Wharton, the clock has ticked far too long on resolving this matter. Please welcome all partners who will enthusiastically support you and Mr. Rogers if both of you are "all in" in recognizing the sizeable problem facing you and in turning this hapless place into a facility that will bring accolades, not condemnation to the city of Memphis. Jeni, keep up this important work. The community will be better for it.

Massive personnel changes are desperately needed at MAS. Starting with Chelton Beamon on down. These guys all knew what was going on and permitted it and protected it. There are a few good eggs at MAS, but they are the rare exceptions, not the rule - Mr. Rogers needs to go through the rosters one name at a time and review these peoples' actions on the security tapes - it is easy to see who should stand and who should go...and nearly all of them should go! I feel badly that the MPD undercover officer had to be a witness to the horrors of MAS - thank you for your dedication, officer.

I think that Wharton put the undercover in the shelter to disprove the Rotary Club report about employees having ties to dogfighters. The cruelty the undercover witnessed was so great that he could not complete his job. I think Wharton and his administration now have egg on their faces, because they have always said what good, well-trained employees are at the shelter, and they have always defended them.

OUTSTANDING work, CH 24. Your journalism reminds me of a pit terrier I own. Annie doesn't stop digging until she's gotten to the root. Keep it up.

Thank you, Jeni and CH 24 for your continued coverage regarding the Memphis Animal Shelter. The public would be oblivious to the abuse that goes on every day at the "shelter." Once animals end up at the shelter (for whatever reason), they should not endure abuse and corruption by the individuals paid to take care of them.

Thank you, Jeni DiPrizio and ABC24, for continuing your coverage of the situation at Memphis Animal Services. We appreciate your work and the fact that you are not allowing the deplorable conditions at MAS to continue without shining a light to help the defenseless animals who, through no fault of their own, arrive there. The community asks the Mayor and City Council, as well as the Police Department, Deputy Attorney General, and other city leaders, what are you doing NOW to uncover further abuse? What are you doing to take action on the people who could be easily identified in the videos from Feb. 2012 that are committing acts of abuse that are so egregious that "even a second-grader" could recognize the abuse? What are you doing, "Shelter" Advisory Board, to not just sweep this under the rug where it seems you've swept other complaints of abuse but to support and CALL FOR continued investigation? And, concurring with "polly sack esq" - when will there be investigation of and action taken against supervisors who, if the abuse was so blatant it's seen on all the videos AND the officer had to stop the undercover investigation after 3 months, certainly had to know what was occurring?

The last line of the article made my blood run cold--that what was being done was so cruel, the undercover investigator could not bear to see it going on any longer. I've said this earlier and I'll say it again--although I wish with all my heart that severe action was taken far sooner against these employees, it looks the city is now doing something about the situation and making it clear that this cruelty and abuse will not be tolerated. Not only look at the employees but now it's also time to look at the supervisors who had turned a blind eye to all this. Remember that fish rots from the head down ! It is time to clean house and put a complete and abrupt end to the suffering and corruption that has plagued MAS.Keep it up until MAS does, as the Mayor promised, go from worst to first.
