MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A 15-year-old girl has acknowledged setting a fire in a hotel room being occupied by her grandparents, who are the owners of the burned home that once belonged to late soul singer Isaac Hayes.

The Commercial Appeal reports that the girl, who is not being identified, acknowledged in juvenile court that she set the May 6 fire in the closet of a Germantown hotel room as her grandparents slept.

Her attorney, James Gulley, said the girl expressed remorse. Prosecutor Jamey Kaplan said she wants the teen placed with the Department of Children's Services, noting an unexplained fire at her grandparents' home in Cordova.

The home, formerly owned by Hayes, was heavily damaged in a May 2 blaze. Kaplan did not call the teen a suspect in that fire.
