MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Police have charged a 16-year-old boy for accidentally shooting his friend in north Memphis Friday afternoon.

Officers were called to the 1000-block of Garland Street around 2:45 p.m. on Friday, February 8, where they found a 15-year-old boy with a gunshot wound. He was transported to The MED in critical condition, but was later upgraded to non-critical.

The victim's friend remained on the scene and was taken into custody. Investigators say they do not know why the 16-year-old had a gun, but that the shooting was accidental.

The teen was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Reckless Endangerment.
